2009 BISON RED PLAYERS AT STATE


Norfolk
Norfolk was the #1 seed in the tournament with a 20 - 2 record. The Panthers defeated Omaha South by 16 in the A-1 District finals to earn their spot at state.

Brady led the team in assists with 89 and had a 14.7 point average entering the tournament.

Brady's 17 points led Norfolk to a 69 - 44 win over Grand Island in the opening round.

Brady scored 8 points in Norfolk's semifinal 53 - 51 victory over Creighton Prep with his final two being the game winner -- a driving bank shot at the buzzer! (Brady says he called the bank.)

Brady poured in 21 points in the finals against Omaha Central, but the Panthers still lost 58 - 71. Brady was named to the Class A All Tournament Team.




Lincoln High

The Links suffered a disappointing round to Lincoln Northeast in the first round of the District A-4 tournament, but their 16 - 5 record was good enough to earn the wildcard birth at state.

Tobin led the Links in scoring for the season with 15.7 points per game and was also the assist leader with 41.

Tobin's 9 points in the first round wasn't enough as Lincoln High lost to Omaha Central 44 - 71.



Ralston
Ralston claimed the B-2 District title with a 59 - 50 victory over Omaha Gross Catholic. The Rams were the #6 seed in the Class B Tournament with a 17 - 8 record.

Ralston defeated Hastings Adams Central 54 - 42 in the first rouind. Dwight scored 12 points for the Rams, all in the first half as Ralsto built a 35 - 16 lead.



Lincoln High
The Links suffered a disappointing round to Lincoln Northeast in the first round of the District A-4 tournament, but their 16 - 5 record was good enough to earn the wildcard birth at state.

Dylan led the Links in rebounding with 178 for the season and averaged 12.4 points.

In the opening round loss to Omaha Central, Dylan had early foul trouble and finished the game with 5 points.


Beatrice
17 - 5 Beatrice had to reach the tournament as a wildcard qualifier after losing to Lincoln Pius X 41 - 47 in the B-3 District final.

As the #5 seed, the Orangemen got a rematch with Lincoln Pius in the first round. Beatrice got its revenge as Trevor hit a 3 pointer at the buzzer to defeat Pius 55 - 54. Trevor recorded 19 points for the game.

Trevor was held scoreless in the first three quarters, but managed 8 points in the final stanza against Omaha Skutt in the semifinal. But it wasn't enough as Skutt prevailed 46 - 43.

Beatrice downed Ralston 51 - 49 in the Class B consolation game -- Trevor scored 2 points.


Chadron
Chadron defeated Minden 42 - 34 in the C1-6 District final to earn the #2 seed in the Class C1 tournament with a 22 - 2 record.

Elliott led the team in scoring (18.4 av.), rebounds (247), assists (74) and blocks (95).

Elliott scored 16 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and had 7 blocks in the Cardinals 41 - 32 opening round victory over Wilber-Clatonia.

In a 55 - 47 semifinal win over Minden, Elliott pulled down 10 rebounds and scored 8 points.

Elliott had 7 rebounds and 14 points in the final, but Chadron lost to Hastings St. Cecilia, 40 - 46. He was named to the Class C1 All Tournament Team.

Chadron defeated Minden 42 - 34 in the C1-6 District final to earn the #2 seed in the Class C1 tournament with a 22 - 2 record.

Zac averaged 15 points and 6.3 rebounds during the season and led the team with 37 steals.

In the opening round victory over Wilber-Clatonia, Zac scored 10 points.

Zac led the way with 23 points as the Cardinals downed Minden in the semifinal.

Zac scored 13 in the Cardinals' 40 - 46 loss to Hastings St. Cecilia in the finals. He was named to the Class C1 All Tournament Team.

2009 BISON WHITE PLAYERS AT STATE:



Derrius Vick -- Lincoln Southeast
Lincoln Southeast won the A-2 District title, defeating Bellevue West 58 - 53. With a 19 - 3 record, the Knights claimed the #2 seed in the tournament.

Derrius averaged 13.5 points for the season and recorded 42 steals.

Derrius poured in 21 points as Southeast downed Millard South 67 - 47 in the first round.

Even with Central employing a diamond-and-one defense to start the game, Derrius responded with 14 points including two freethrows that gave the Knights the lead with 11 seconds left. The lead didn't hold up as Central prevailed 53 - 52.

The Knights lost to Creighton Prep 56 - 71 in the Class A consolation game. Derrius scored 2 points.
Galen Gullie -- Omaha Bryan
Omaha Bryan came to state as the A-6 District Champions, a 47 - 33 victory over Millard North. An 18 - 5 record made them the #5 seed.

Galen averaged 14.8 points and recorded 80 assists on the season.

Galen recorded 10 points in the Bears opening round 50 - 62 loss to Creighton Prep.
DK Augustine -- Omaha Bryan
Omaha Bryan came to state as the A-6 District Champions, a 47 - 33 victory over Millard North. An 18 - 5 record made them the #5 seed.

DK averaged 12 points and 5.9 rebounds for the Bears.

In Omaha Bryan's opening 50 - 62 loss to Creighton Prep, DK scored 10 points, but was injured late in the game while diving for a loose ball.


Garrett Johnson -- Norfolk
Norfolk was the #1 seed in the tournament with a 20 - 2 record. The Panthers defeated Omaha South by 16 in the A-1 District finals to earn their spot at state.

Garrett averaged 7.1 points for the Panthers during the season.

Garrett had 5 points in Norfolk's opening round 69 - 44 win over Grand Island.

Garrett tallied 3 points in the Panthers 53 - 51 win over Creighton Prep in the semifinal.

Norfolk lost to Omaha Central, 58 - 71 in the state final.


Reath Jiech -- Omaha Bryan
Omaha Bryan came to state as the A-6 District Champions, a 47 - 33 victory over Millard North. An 18 - 5 record made them the #5 seed.

For the season, Reath averaged 9.1 points and 6.7 rebounds.

In the opening round 50 - 62 loss to Creighton Prep, Reath had 9 points.


Ethan Brozek -- Norfolk Catholic
Norfolk Catholic was 22 - 2 for the season, defeating Valentine 74 - 35 to claim the C1-5 District Title.

Ethan averaged 10.8 points and 5.3 rebounds for the Knights.

Ethan scored 16 points, including the winning basket with 6 seconds to go in Norfolk Catholic's first round 50 - 48 win over Grand Island Central Catholic.

Ethan was limited to 2 points in the Knights' 52 - 55 loss to Hastings St. Cecilia in the semifinal.

Ethan scored 9 points in Norfolk Catholic's 59 - 65 loss to Minden in the consolation game.


Zach Sterup -- Hastings St. Cecilia
Hastings St. Cecilia claimed the #1 seed in the C1 tournament with a 22 - 1 record and a 56 - 42 District Title win over David City.

Zach averaged 12.7 points and 8 rebounds for the season.

Zach put up 16 points as the BlueHawks cruised to a first round win over Tekamah-Herman, 80 - 44.

Zach scored 10 points in St. Cecilia's 55 - 52 semifinal win over Norfolk Catholic.

Hastings St. Cecilia claimed its third consecutive Class C1 title, 46 - 40 over Chadron. Zach scored 7 points.

2009 JUNIOR BISON PLAYERS (GOLD & BLUE TEAMS) AT STATE:


Trevor Cyboron -- Ravenna: Having lost to Axtell in the C2-5 District final, Ravenna earned a wildcard birth with a 22 - 3 record. Trevor averaged 14 points for the Blue Jays. The Blue Jays coasted to a 73 - 34 first round victory in round one over Sutton with Trevor scoring 12 points.
In the Blue Jays semifinal 60 - 57 win over Johnson County, Trevor scored 10 points.
Ravenna took the C2 State Title with a 57 - 51 win over Fremont Bergan. Trevor scored 10 points in the win.

Connor Beranek -- Ravenna: Having lost to Axtell in the C2-5 District final, Ravenna earned a wildcard birth with a 22 - 3 record. Connor averaged 14.2 points and 6..6 rebounds for the Blue Jays. In the opening round 73 - 34 win over Sutton, Connor scored 13 points.
In the Blue Jays semifinal 60 - 57 win over Johnson County, Connor scored 9 points.
Connor led Ravenna to the C1 title, scoring 19 points in the Blue Jays' 57 - 51 victory. Connor was selected to the Class C2 All Tournament Team.

Joe Jasnowski -- Creighton Prep: The 19 - 4 Junior Jays won the A-5 District and entered the tournament 19 - 4. Joe averaged 2 points per game for Creighton in the regular season. Creighton won their round one game, 62 - 50 over Omaha Bryan.
Creighton Prep lost to Norfolk, 51 - 53 in the semifinal.
Joe scored 2 points as Prep defeated Southeast, 71 - 56 in the consolation game.

John Harris -- Lincoln High: The Links lost to Lincoln Northeast in the first round of District but qualified as the Class A wildcard team with a 16 - 5 record. John averaaged 8.2 points and 5 rebounds for the Links. John scored 2 points in the opening round 44 - 71 loss to Omaha Central.

Ryan Sievers -- Lincoln Southeast: Lincoln Southeast won the A-2 District title, defeating Bellevue West 58 - 53. With a 19 - 3 record, the Knights claimed the #2 seed in the tournament. Ryan scoreed 22 points for the season. Ryan scored 3 points in the Knights' opening round victory , 67 - 47 over Millard South. Southeast lost to Omaha Central, 52 - 53 in the second round. In the consolation game, Southeast lost to Creighton Prep, 56 - 71.

Brady Barrett -- Adams Central: Adams Central defeated McCook in the B5 District final, 54 - 51 to earn a trip to state with a 20 - 3 record. Brady averaged 13.9 points for the Patriots. Brady scored 9 points in the opening round 42 - 54 loss to Ralston.
